On 16–20 May 2023, Malargüe City in Mendoza Province in the foothills of the Andes Mountains in Argentina presents PASTURAS, the first film festival on transhumance in Latin America. At the same time, the 4th Mendoza Film Lab will be launched in Mendoza Province, the same area where the film “Arreo” (selected for the second edition of the Perspectives on Pastoralism Film Festival) was made.

The PASTURAS International Pastoralism Film Festival and the Mendoza Film Lab seek to stimulate more initiatives in Latin America to depict pastoralism in audiovisual form, as it is often unseen. Moreover, they want to show the importance of transhumance and other forms of pastoralism for the environment.

During the film festival, Mendoza will work with the community of Malargüe to make a short documentary on transhumance, which will be shown at the end of the film festival. The films will be shown in Cine Maitén, Malargüe

This year, PASTURAS is a non-competitive film festival but it hopes to become an international competitive festival in 2024.
